Edge banding calculator

Mark which edges of each part take a band. The calculator takes the band's thickness off before cutting, lays the parts out on your sheets, and totals the band to order for each type. Free, no sign-up.

Edge banding

Name the edge bands you use, then pick each part's band and edges on its row. Finished sizes lose the band's thickness before cutting.

How it works

  1. 01

    Name your bands

Under Edge banding, name each band you use with its thickness, like PVC 1 mm, and set a waste allowance for trimming.

  2. 02

    Mark each part's edges

Pick a part's band and how many of its long and short edges take it: 0, 1 or 2. Type finished sizes and the band comes off before cutting, or type cut sizes.

  3. 03

    Read the band totals

Press Plan my sheets. The plan gives each part's cut size and each band type's length along the finished edges, with the allowance on top. The print page, CSV and Excel files list the same.

Edge banding calculator questions

How is the cut size worked out?

With finished sizes, the band's thickness comes off each banded edge: a 600 × 400 mm door banded all round with 2 mm band is cut 596 × 396. With cut sizes, parts are cut as typed and the band goes on after.

Which edges are long and which are short?

A part's long edges run along its longer side. A cabinet side banded on its front edge takes one long edge; a door banded all round takes two long and two short.

How much band should I order?

The plan adds up each band type's length along the finished edges, then puts your waste allowance on top: 10% on 20 m of edges is 22 m to order.

Can parts keep their grain?

Yes. Set which way the grain runs on the sheets and on each part that needs it, and the part lines up with the sheet's grain.

Is it free?

Yes. Edge banding is on every plan, and here it needs no sign-up. Labels, the print page, and the CSV and Excel files show each part's banded edges.
